Gordon Ramsay and his family, spent a day down at Glebe Farm, to choose two pedigree Berkshire pigs for the second series of the ‘f’ word.

Gordon was shown around our 100 acre farm to see our champion herd of Berkshires.

Happy healthy pigs was one of Gordon’s requirements, as he is as passionate about the well being of animals destined for the table, as he is about cooking

Glebe Farm has one of the largest herds of pedigree Berkshire pigs in the UK but not at the expense of quality.

Quality, stress free pigs gives us quality pork, which is important for us, as we sell the majority of our meat through our farm shop. We are happy for people to come and see how our pigs are kept any time. The result comes through in the taste. We only sell what we breed and raise. No pork is brought in from elsewhere. At Glebe Farm we are concerned that all our pigs, even those destined for sausages, have a happy, stress free life and Gordon was determined that his pigs should be raised in this way.

After the children had being able to feed newly born lambs and hold two day old piglets, Gordon chose two 12 week old gilts, which he raised in his back garden until big enough to eat.

Gordon wanted to raise Berkshire pigs because they are not only a quality rare breed pork pig but because their temperament is so good, his children would be able to be involved in looking after them.

Glebe Farm’s involvement with Gordon didn’t just stop when he took the pigs away, we helped throughout the whole series and even tasted the Trinny and Suzanna sausages at Gordon’s barbeque!

The Berkshire is one of a number of traditional breed pigs and became almost extinct after the Second World War. Even today there are less than 400 registered sows in the UK.
